Academic Support System

Mariano Marcos State University provides full support to its students to carry out teaching activities through supporting facilities such as classrooms, good libraries and other buildings that give students the freedom to learn and express themselves but are still regulated by school rules, such as uniforms, teaching time.

The main thing is that in the teaching process students are given the opportunity to express their opinions and have a role in teaching in class, The teacher as the main role who leads the learning activities in the classroom and teaches many things to the students, then the teacher's role as a mentor who controls the process of developing students' ideas and knowledge from the material explained by the teacher, this makes students become more independent and confident in forming their new understanding and knowledge.

With various approaches applied by teachers that train students to develop their hard and soft skills, such as the group discussion process, they are trained to play a role in group cooperation and sharing tasks, in addition to the aspects of knowledge and abilities individually are also increased to improve student cognitive, while for the psychomotor aspects of students, teachers provide activities such as drawing, showing the picture composing pictures and so on.

Teaching System

K-12 curriculum implemented in MMSU-Laboratory High School. 7 Amethyst and Sapphire, 8 venus, 8 jupiter, 9 Scorpio and aries, 10 camia and scorpio, 11steam A and B, 12 steam, teaching activities are carried out for 5 days a week, starting from Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 5. this is a long day when compared to Indonesia which only reaches 3 or 4 hours, but this also varies, depending on the type of school and its policies. And every Monday they will hold a flag ceremony. After that the teaching activities begin and the teacher starts teaching according to the esson pan that has been designed before teaching, during the teaching at the teacher's base is active in interacting with students and giving students the opportunity to convey their thoughts and ideas, so that the teaching is conducive and active. Then students will be given assignments or homework at the end of the class time, but most teachers give assignments that must be completed that day, not homework. For a set time they will hold a final examination.

Materials and other Learning

In MMSU-HS, the teaching materials come from commercial publishers, and they buy the books using their personal money, and for the teaching resources in the classroom, the teachers have prepared them such as complete materials and presented them through powerpoint then shown using the projector available.

Measurement and evaluation system

For classes 7-12 that I observed, in the grading period, the assessment is through exercises given by the teacher to students at the end of the lesson. Students are asked to develop their thinking skills in the form of writing and direct practice as group discussion activities as an application of constructivism learning theory as a theory in the learning process by constructing an individual's knowledge, therefore students must be active in the learning process as in organizing activities such as thinking, assembling concepts and describing a meaning of the material studied.

Curriculum

K -12 curriculum

For effective language acquisition and learning to take place, language teachers must be guided by the six (6) language teaching principles. These principles explain the natural process of language development.

1.Spiral progression

Increased levels of difficulty and sophistication will be used to teach, revise, and revisit skills, grammatical items, structures, and other sorts of texts. Students will be able to advance from the fundamental level of language use to higher levels as a result.

2. Interaction

Communication (oral and written) will serve as the context for language development. Students will engage in activities designed to mimic real-life scenarios with a range of language demands (purposes, themes, and audiences) in order to develop their social skills and interact with others.

3. Integration

To offer a variety of viewpoints and meaningful connections, the language learning domains—the receptive skills, the productive skills, grammar, and vocabulary—will be taught in an integrated manner in conjunction with the utilization of pertinent print and non-print materials. Different types of integration—including those involving skills, material, theme, topic, and values—can occur either implicitly or overtly.

4. A focus on the learner

The teaching-learning process is centered on the needs of the students. Differentiated instruction will be provided for each student based on their needs, skills, and interests. They will be actively engaged, and their language development will be strengthened, using effective pedagogies.

5. Contextualization

The tasks and activities for language learning will be created so that students can practice their language skills in real-world situations. To assist students employ linked language abilities, grammatical items/structures, and vocabulary effectively in spoken and written language to suit the purpose, audience, context, and culture, courses may be designed around learning outcomes, a topic, or a particular form of writing. Explicit instruction and accompanying follow-up practice will serve to reinforce key learning concepts.

6. Construction

The core of language acquisition and usage is meaning-making. The assignments and activities that students complete as part of their learning will be created with time for reflection and response on their part. Students will receive adequate scaffolding so they can develop to their full cognitive, affective, and psychomotor potentials, become independent learners, and become skilled meaning consumers and constructors.
